Shreveport, Louisiana, Jan. 27, 2022 – CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System is pleased to announce the new Cardiovascular Center of Excellence at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center is now open.
This state-of-the-art heart center is the capstone project of a $43 million investment to completely transform the existing hospital footprint. The CHRISTUS Cardiovascular Center completes a series of expansion projects over the past 5 years that have included a new, tripled-in-size Emergency Room, 16 new inpatient beds and new ICU beds. With a devoted entrance, family space and parking, the Cardiovascular Center of Excellence is designed for optimum patient experience and unmatched diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical care.
The Center’s hybrid capabilities set the highest standard for comprehensive heart care in the region. The additions of a hybrid surgical suite, hybrid catheterization lab and hybrid electrophysiology lab, bring the very latest in surgical and cardiovascular advancements. The modern space is the integration of a catheterization lab and a surgical operating room into a single space, making it possible for the surgeon to perform a procedure, if necessary, with no interruption for the patient.

Purposefully designed to incorporate the needs of changing medical technology for an estimated 10 years into the future, the state-of-the art space features the most advanced X-ray imaging systems, vital in performing any heart procedure with extraordinary accuracy. Everything about the suite is customized, including shelving, LED lighting, and the movable operating table designed to hold all necessary equipment and house its own electrical outlets to tailor the movable workbench for different procedures. All wiring in the suite is set underneath the floor, limiting exposure of wires and sound vibrations.
The unrivaled expertise of our medical staff includes CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier’s cardiology partners at Advanced Cardiovascular Specialists ACS), with whom we partnered to open the region’s only outpatient catheterization lab, Advanced Heart & Vascular Center, in 2018, as well as two Vanderbilt-trained cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, Dr. Timothy Danish and Dr. John Evans. The multidisciplinary heart and vascular care team also includes pulmonologists, internists, primary care providers and emergency medicine physicians.
